The Coming New World Religion (August 2, 2003)

More and more people are becoming dissatisfied with their religions organizations, while many millions more never jumped on a major religious bandwagon to begin with - why is that?  Why is it that the major religions have not been able to bring about at least a greater measure of peace in the world?  It appears we are going backward instead of forward!  There is so much hate demonstrating today in the name of religion it is profoundly saddening.  And yet the pomp and ceremony continue...while millions of starving children try to make it through another day.

In recent decades huge sums of money have been raised to erect expensive churches and temples while millions of children died of starvation.  Present religious organizations can and do good work but it isn't enough to satisfy world need, neither physically nor spiritually.  Faith and hope are wonderful things and they go a long way toward helping man find his way...but man is in need of much more.  He needs an intelligent factual approach to his problems, both in his daily life and his spiritual one as well.  He seeks a greater understanding of his place in the scheme of things.  Too much attention has been placed on the church hierarchy and it's property, the ceremony, and their unrealistic teachings.  The fact is most people would rather hold their religious service out in the weather if it meant the saving of a child's life.

The simple message of Love, brought to us by a son of God 2000 years ago, isn't usually the teaching in most Christian churches - it has been a focus on death (the crucifixion) rather than a life of loving service (the resurrection) - on penalties for not following the churches narrow presentation of their interpretation of truth.  Followers are told they cannot understand the mysteries surrounding their particular religion - yet they give undue importance to a member of the clergy standing before them in a church giving them the meanings and interpretations they are told it is impossible to know - are they more intelligent than those attending?

What it comes down to is the term churchianity is a better expression for today's Christian activities (so called).  The message taught by that poor man without a place to lay his head has been lost and in it's place the church has been given priority.  As related in the gospel story, the only time Christ attended church as an adult he caused a disturbance!  The point here is that churches, temples, and their interpretations is not where the focus should be directed...and that is why they largely remain empty.  Religious doctrine remains tethered to past unacceptable and unbelievable interpretations.  Religious teachings have not kept pace with man's intellectual development and growth.  A new and better form of presentation is looked for and desired.  This will be in the form of a new world religion, whereby the group's cohesion will be based on the energy of Love and demonstrated in the world as goodwill and the will-to-good.  So is Christianity going to just go away?  Of course not.  Just as Christianity didn't replace the major religions existing upon it's foundation, so it will be with the coming new world religion.  Change is in the works for humanity and religion is just one of those coming changes.

This new religion will be founded more on mental attitude and universal purpose rather than emotional adherence to some unrealistic dogmatic assertions.  It will not have large buildings of worship throughout the world, although it may have organizational offices in various locations.  When necessary or desirable to have public or group meetings, meditations, study groups etc., existing buildings will be used.  Look at the number of public and private building space not being used at night and on weekends for example (separation of church and state will become a thing of the past as the fact of God and universal truth becomes a more accepted reality).  People will unite based on common goals and ideas, the principle of goodwill, and a sense of duty to their fellow man.  For this they will have no need or desire to participate in the limiting conditions set forth by the vast majority of religious organizations today.  They will work as an organized group (not an organization), no matter their personal geographic location upon the planet.  A major keynote to this group will be freedom - freedom to study and learn rather than adhere to some unrealistic religious platform.  Another keynote will be goodwill - they will have the desire, backing, and encouragement to help their fellow man in his time of need, free from political and social constraints tied to any religious group.

The new religion "must be based upon those truths which have stood the test of ages and which have brought assurance and comfort to men everywhere.  These surely are:" (from The Reappearance of The Christ by Alice A. Bailey - page 144-147).

1.  THE FACT OF GOD (That central Reality can be called by any name that man may choose...)

2.  MAN'S RELATIONSHIP TO GOD ( "We are all the children of God" (Gal. III:26)... )

3.  THE FACT OF IMMORTALITY AND OF ETERNAL PERSISTENCE (There is no such thing as death in reality - the spirit of man is undying! We live again and again...)

4.  THE CONTINUITY OF REVELATION AND THE DIVINE APPROACHES (Never has man been left alone - always in his hour of need will revelation and help be forthcoming...)

"Religion is the name given to the invocative appeal of humanity and the evocative response of the greater Life to that cry."

- The Reappearance of The Christ, p157 - by Alice A. Bailey

"If the great organized religious groups of churches in every land, and composing all faiths do not offer spiritual guidance and help, humanity will find another way.  Nothing can keep the spirit of man from God."

- The Reappearance of The Christ, p159 - by Alice A. Bailey
