Midway between two great forces (June 14, 2003)

Author's note - When reading any word referencing the masculine, such as he or his, please know the author, rather than make the reading cumbersome by constantly using such terms as he/she, intends that reference to apply to both the masculine and the feminine since many statements are intended to embrace the personality life of the server.

Midway between the lowest depths of materialism and the highest heights of spiritualism (from the view point of the human being) exists a point.  We may consider this point one of balance and equilibrium.  A position of neutrality, of peace, of transference into greater states of awareness.  Prior to reaching this midway point many points below have to be stood upon and those forces balanced before moving up to the next point of attainment - the next rung of the ladder if you will.

Each point attained lies between two poles of energy, or opposing forces.  We can use terms such as positive and negative, good and evil (evil can be expressed as that good we should have left behind), up and down, spirituality and materialism and so on.  These points place us in a position where certain challenges must be overcome in order to move on to the next level of experience.

As stated above each  point brings with it it's own level of experience, challenge, and rewards.  We can discuss this point from many angles and perspectives but let us concentrate on only one -that from the struggle to reach and maintain equilibrium while standing between two powerful forces (we are referring to that quality of man called consciousness and not the physical body).  The perspective of a conscious serving worker - trying to do his best to maintain balance within the parameters of daily life on the dense physical plane.  And let us further relate this thought to everyday events.

Has thought been given to how difficult must be the job of the incoming spiritual workers and teachers of our era?  We are here referring to conscious workers - those doing what they can to help humanity reach the next revelatory step on the evolutionary ladder.  Such things as providing for the well being of families and children - everyday things like paying the rent, making purchases, relating within groups conversationally and socially, working at a job for income.  How very distracting and difficult it must be to try and maintain their point of equilibrium!  Is it not a fact that one must conform to the basic rules of society even when it is recognized that elements of society need to undergo a drastic change?  And who among us can snap their fingers and create instant change for the better - change is up to us as individuals and then as a group.  It is for humanity to evolve toward the higher spiritual goals at it's own pace and in it's own time...but what of the individual worker?

He goes to work and sees blatant misuse of company assets, or what he views as purposeful misdirection solely for monetary gain.  He sees the company where he works ignore the principal of sharing and seek every dollar possible - the primary focus on getting more and more, regardless of the consequences.  Those individuals surrounding him expressing the same desires.  What are his choices?  And how does this affect his daily life?

He may not find important things his friends and family believe he should.  He may say things they find hurtful or insensitive, without intending to do so.  He may disagree with a purchase or material goal his spouse or children find important.  Likewise his opinions at work may be completely opposite to the norm...or worse, he may feel unable to  voice his opinion without losing his job and thus affecting his family.

He goes to make a purchase - does he see a fair market before him?  Or how about family discussions, social circles...where does he fit in?  The constant pull of the material vs. the spiritual values as he recognizes them in his everyday life must provide for intense moments and a swinging of the pendulum back and forth between these two mighty forces.

We are all workers in this world - some on a more conscious level than others.  And as human beings we all stand at a point between two opposing lines of force.  This point adjusts as we evolve into higher levels of being.  The tests and the trials continue to act out in our daily lives in ever deepening ways.  First there will be crises of a more physical and material nature.  This will change in time to more emotional points of tension and later still to those immersed in mental challenges.  These last must be very demanding if we think about it - to struggle with two opposing thoughts or ideas where choices can create upheaval within his level of group focus.

So why do our higher level  workers and teachers continue their service  work in the face of the many necessary and difficult sacrifices?  Surely their lives of service must affect their daily lives in many unexpected, misunderstood, and so called negative ways.  Perhaps it is his glimpse of what awaits for all of his fellow human units...and for all units of life on this planet.  Perhaps he knows or suspects that a point lies just ahead, midway between these two extreme forces, whereby there is silence and a bliss beyond comprehension.  Perhaps he simply aspires toward something he only senses at his point of standing, and his aspiration is filled with all the fiery wishes he can summon.  Or perhaps it is simply the will-to-good in active demonstration.

Whatever our point of standing we must continue to look upward.  With each step up the ladder to a different point we must become ever more guarded as to our speech, our actions and decisions, not to mention our thoughts.  Pain and suffering will have to be experienced.  Difficult decisions must be made.  And life crises will be encountered.  Nevertheless, we must continue on our way while extending a hand to those climbing below.  And in time, with a helping hand from above, we will all reach the highest point attainable in the human kingdom...and then pass into greater states of being.

69. "There is but one road to the Path; at its very end alone the Voice of the Silence can be heard.  The ladder by which the candidate ascends is formed of rungs of suffering and pain; these can be silenced only by the voice of virtue.  Woe, then, to thee, disciple, if there is one single vice thou hast not left behind.  For then the ladder will give way and overthrow thee; its foot rests in the deep mire of thy sins and failings, and ere thou canst attempt to cross this wide abyss of matter thou hast to lave thy feet in waters of renunciation.  Beware lest thou shouldst set a foot still soiled upon the ladder's lowest rung.  Woe unto him who dares pollute one rung with miry feet.  The foul and viscous mud will dry, become tenacious, then glue his feet unto the spot, and like a bird caught in the wily fowler's lime, he will be stayed from further progress.  His vices will take shape and drag him down.  His sins will raise their voices, like as the jackal's laugh and sob after the sun goes down; his thoughts become an army, and bear him off a captive slave."
