Iraq
Solution (May 5, 2007)
Is there
really an attempt to find a workable solution to the debacle in
Iraq
? Every day the news media
focuses on the ‘problem’ and the game playing politics of the two
major parties in
America
. But what is actually
being done to try and resolve the situation?
No solution will ever be achieved militarily.
That should be obvious.
And that being the case, only one avenue of approach to the
issue is left...a diplomatic solution.
A large majority of Americans want a diplomatic resolution, so
why isn’t there a concerted effort to achieve one?
Again, the answer to that question is pretty obvious: egos,
power, financial gain…etc.
Yes, there has recently been a meeting of some fifty countries with an
agenda claiming to focus on helping Iraq…the main issue appeared to
be on forgiving debt rather than finding a workable solution to
stabilize and end the violence and strife in the country.
A solution is needed whereby American and ‘coalition
forces’ can gracefully exit while maintaining a high level of
security for Iraqi civilians.
Can you imagine what it would be like to be a child, or mother, in war
torn
Iraq
? How many of you have
ever been to war and seen first hand what it is really like; the
suffering and agony endured by innocent civilians?
Two main plans have been offered by lawmakers in
America
– more military and withdrawal.
It doesn’t make sense to continue pursuing a war strategy
that will only maintain the status quo at best.
It also doesn’t do the Iraqi people, or the region, any good
to suddenly withdraw military forces from the country without
providing some level of security for the civilians caught up in this
quagmire. There is an
alternative to both of these plans – perhaps the only one.
Where are those with the foresight and heart to implement it?
People are people, mostly good at heart, no matter where they live on
the planet. They belong to
the ONE human family, same as you and me.
They live their lives each day undergoing various degrees of
difficulty; for who is immune to the trials and tribulations of life
in this world? Why is it
so difficult to understand that if we lighten the burden on the
suffering in the world, our own burdens are lightened as well?
The vast majority of people everywhere would do anything to
help ease the pain and suffering of a fellow human being when directly
affected or influenced by another’s difficulties.
And yet, when it comes to
Iraq
in particular, nothing of any real moment is being done by the world
at large. It is also
interesting to note that in the
United States
a movement promoting the establishment of a Department of Peace within
the federal government can’t get 100% backing by the nation’s
lawmakers! Imagine that, a
Department promoting peace, instead of war, can’t get instant
backing by all its elected leaders!
Humanity must learn to solve its problems in a new way – through the
use of co-operative goodwill. This
must be, and can only be, through group effort.
Only through a united group effort can the situation in
Iraq
, as well as other difficult human issues, be resolved.
And
America
, in particular, can not continue to be a major player in world
affairs if it keeps pursuing a path of isolationism – the ‘go it
alone’ mentality. It is
past time to change. A new
attitude toward foreign policy and global affairs must be adopted.
An attitude focused on global co-operative goodwill –
sharing, instead of taking. Leaders
must sit down together with the true intent of solving humanities
problems in a spirit of goodwill, rather than a position that seeks to
attain the upper hand.
Reduce
these thoughts to a more basic level.
Aren’t we much happier when we are getting along with our
spouse, our co-workers etc.? Harmony
in our personal lives requires commitment, giving and sharing –
cooperative goodwill. It
must be sincere and it must be heartfelt.
The opposite generates strife, around and toward us.
Back to
Iraq
: what is the solution? A
sincere and true resolution can only be found on a global level.
And presently there is only one world organization that is in a
position to respond - the United Nations.
The United Nations was created to deal with global issues
facing humanity. And to
seek solution there the
United States
needs to sincerely engage the world in active dialogue: heartfelt,
cooperative, group dialogue based on the principle of goodwill.
It is also important that any resolution(s) involve all of
Iraq
’s neighbors. Is this
easy to accomplish? Of
course not! But there is
no other solution that makes sense.
A resolution hammered out on a global level would allow the
United States
to withdraw its military and provide a measure of security to the
Iraqi people. Humanity, as
a group, would be the winner of this unfortunate episode in history.
And, just so there is no misunderstanding this message, terrorists
should be hunted down and dealt with accordingly.
This is not a political statement.
It is a plea on behalf of humanity to enter a new age whereby
problems are resolved through gestures of goodwill, not through
violence or by the use of force.
Be with us.
Quote:
"Goodwill is man's first attempt to express the love of God. Its results on earth will be peace. It is so simple and practical that people fail to appreciate its potency or its scientific and dynamic effect. One person sincerely
practicing goodwill in a family can completely change its attitudes. Goodwill really
practiced among groups in any nation, by political and religious parties in any nation and among the nations of the world can revolutionize the world."

of Humanity, p-7, by Alice A. Bailey

"...each person, community and nation should begin with a diagnosis of their own attitude towards goodwill, and then set an example by eliminating cleavages in the home, the business,
or the nation. Goodwill is contagious; once a definite start has been made in a pure and disinterested spirit, goodwill will permeate the world and right human relations will be rapidly established.
- The Rays and the Initiations, p-751-752 by Alice A. Bailey
"Harmlessness brings about in the life caution in judgment, reticence in speech, ability to refrain from impulsive action, and the demonstration of a non-critical spirit. So, free passage can be given to the forces of true love, and to those spiritual energies which seem to vitalize the personality, leading consequently to right action.
Let harmlessness, therefore, be the keynote of your life."
